Creating Unforgettable Dinner Parties at Our First Farm to Fork Harvest Table

There’s something pretty magical about gathering for dinner parties around a long table, sharing honest food, and watching strangers become friends. That’s exactly what happened at our very first Farm to Fork event, hosted right here in Henley-on-Klip with our friends at Embo Farmstead.

Embo brought in a stunning variety of organic produce—sourced from a community of small local farms, and we used it to build a menu that was simple, seasonal, and full of flavour. Around 25 guests joined us from across Gauteng (yes, even from Pretoria!) for an autumn afternoon that felt like a big, generous Sunday lunch—just with a few more courses.

We started with crunchy sourdough crostinis, topped with beetroot hummus and radish pickle, and roasted butternut with feta. With a glass of Protea wine in hand, guests mingled in the late sunshine before we all headed indoors, where our table was dressed with fresh farm produce, flickering candles, and that cosy harvest feel.

What we served

The menu was all about celebrating the season, without fuss or fancy tricks. Just good ingredients, cooked with care.

Starter

  • French onion galette – a flaky herb pastry loaded with slow-cooked onions and melted cheese

Harvest Table Mains

  • Chicken tagine with tomato, dates, and toasted nuts

  • Sweet potato and chickpea curry in a rich coconut sauce

  • Bombay carrot salad with warm spices and crunchy nuts

  • Beetroot and bulgur wheat salad with apple, dill, and lemon (get the recipe here)

  • Panzanella with fresh tomatoes, rocket, and sourdough croutons

  • Herbed couscous with pomegranate

  • Steven’s sourdough and focaccia, fresh from the oven

Dessert

  • Sticky date pudding served warm, the perfect ending to a cool autumn night

The bread was torn into before we even thought of butter, the wine kept flowing, and the conversations carried on long after dessert. The best part? Seeing people relax, connect, and really enjoy what’s on the plate—in a way that only happens when the food is real and the company is good.

What’s next for our Dinner Parties?

Our next Farm to Fork will be on 9 August for Women’s Day, and before that, we’re hosting a cosy Winter Feast on 28 June. If that sounds like your kind of evening, click here to book your seat.
